Surviving A Broken Printer

For many businesses, a printer is an essential piece of equipment in the office. Forms, letters, mailers, and more are printed out on a daily basis to keep the business running smoothly. So, when one or more printers at a business breaks, it can seem like the business comes to a standstill. Fortunately, there are a few options that can help your business keep running strong until you get a printer repair professional like Automated Office Systems to come and repair your printer.

Use Your Backup Printers

If your office is big enough to have more than one printer, your first thought might be to just rely on the printers that you have left that are operational. However, you need to be careful because you can overload and burn out those printers depending upon how much extra stress you put on them. Be sure to let the printers cool down between jobs.

Borrow a Printer

If you really do only have one printer that your office uses, you may be able to borrow a printer from a neighboring office in your building or on your street. If the people you ask seem hesitant, offer them some money for the use of one of their printers until your printer is repaired. Try not to be a nuisance by coming into their office all throughout the day. If there are certain forms or other documents that you know you use throughout the day, go to them once to make all the copies you'll need so that you limit disrupting their business operations.

Go to a Commercial Printer

Another option is to go to a commercial printing site. This will be a much more expensive option, but may be one of the few available to you in a pinch. Again, make sure that staff go to these places to print large batches of items at a time so that they don't spend most of their work day making trips to use the printer.

Go Digital

As much as you can, use digital versions of your forms and documents to pass along to business partners or have clients fill out. These can serve as a stop gap until the printer is up and running again. Once you do have a functioning printer, you can send business partners hard copies of documents and offer your clients hard copies of your forms to fill out.

One or more or these measures can help you survive until your printer has been repaired and is fully operational.
